Dr. Phil McGraw

Dr. Phil McGraw chart

I searched and searched for Dr. Phil's birthdate.....finally, last year, I found it on the IMDB. I quickly drew up his chart, and was going to put it up on the website.....and it just never happened for some reason. There's a time for everything and I guess this is the time......partly, because he's really bugging me right now!

At first I didn't like Dr. Phil on "Oprah" because he yelled at people. Then I think he tamed that down, and I did like him, and his new show....been particularly interested in the first Dr. Phil Family....but now he's yelling again. A few months ago he was on "Extreme Makeover" after his own show here in SF bay area, and I had to turn it off. I just couldn't continue to hear his voice.

Dr Phillip McGraw was born on September 1, 1950 in Vinita, Oklahoma. The chart is a sunrise chart ...and accurate thanks to a viewer who corrected me, because I had Texas listed). ...check below for a new chart with the time of birth. He has sun in Virgo and moon in Taurus. I have the same combo so I guess that's the part of me that likes him. Also, since I was born on Aug. 30th, our suns conjunct.

But, he has Saturn in late Virgo and Mercury in early Libra. Most astrologers wouldn't say they were 'conjunct' but it's close enough for me. A person with Mercury conjunct Saturn has communication skills (Mercury) that are very taciturn and pragmatic...this is where he can jump down people's throats, being the all encompassing authority figure.

Dr. Phil was born with Venus and Pluto together in Leo. That creates a strong love energy, that can be used for good or ill.

The Moon is the focal part of his chart, with 5 aspects from other planets, showing that his Mom (Moon) is the central focus of his life....as well as his home, which he likes comfortable (Taurus) and somewhat affluent. Which is something he can do now because of his new found fame.

If you watch closely, he's always the best father, the best husband, the best brother, the best son; he knows how to do it so much better than the clients he's working with; he needs the imperfection around him and he certainly has created the perfect setting with a show such as his.

Chinese Astrology:

Dr. Phil was born in the year of the Tiger, and the month of the Snake.

The Snake can't be wrong, remember. It is sensitive with a perfectionist streak, and needs to control to be perfect. You'll notice that on the shows where the audience disagrees with what he says, and they do a whole show around it, Dr. Phil always comes out on top. He's right, can't be wrong, and has to have the last word.

I'm also wondering if he was born from 7-9 pm when he would have been born in the Hour of the Dog. If you listen closely, he's always making dog metaphors. That would give him an Aries rising, which could be right on. * see update below.

Being a Snake myself, it's hard for me to let him have 'the last word'. I really have issues about how he's handling his "First Dr. Phil" family, Erin, Marty, Alexandra and Katherine (on the first season). For one, he's been yelling at them for the last number of shows. I'd like Marty to tell him where to shove it. I told my husband when the kids were small, that a man's voice is authoritative and conditional in itself; a man doesn't need to raise his voice to get anyone to listen.

Erin admits to being cold and controlling. Her sister said she doesn't have anything to do with her because she's never good enough in Erin's eyes. Marty has had a couple of affairs, Alexandra had a baby at 15, and now Katherine is having problems. Who's fault is that? It seems to me that everyone is looking for escape from Erin, and finding some love & solace where they can find it while Erin is playing the martyr.

As a therapist, you draw to you the issues with which you need to deal. Interesting that Dr. Phil has this family with strong Snake issues. I'm not sure whether Erin is a Snake or a Virgo, but she has it in a pivotal point in her chart that creates perfection issues. Perfectionists can only be perfect if they know what is going on with everyone at all times. They need to control. So, naturally, Erin thinks honesty is the best thing, because that's the only way she's going to keep control of what everyone is up to. She also, as well as Phil, needs to feel superior and find people who are inferior who make them feel better about themselves. Of course, she's going to marry Marty, whom she can control and mold. She wouldn't want a man who would be a true partner or the 'head of the household'. So, at first we saw Alex as the scapegoat, being pregnant at 15. Then it shifted to Marty, and then to Katherine, and now back to Marty. They are all 'wrong', and she gets to have the last word, portraying herself as the one who has been wronged.

There is a type of personality that's called "lying for survival" - something like that. The word isn't 'lying' but that's what it comes down to. In the "Celestine Prophecy", Redfield defined 4 different personalities: Interrogator, Intimidator, Aloof, and Poor Me. "Poor Me" correlates to this survival mode. When one isn't comfortable with another to be able to tell the truth without having the roof cave in, they go into survival mode, whereby they know it's easier to lie by omission, white lie, or sometimes a down right lie to keep the peace. They know the other person is going to go ballistic over the most mundane things. The other person gets so angry at this because how is she going to keep control when everyone isn't 'honest' with her? They aren't honest, because they don't want her to go ballistic. It's much more peaceful when she doesn't know what's going on and.......she can't manipulate them when she doesn't know. My father always used to say "See? When we talk and let each other know what is going on, we can really work together". In actuality, he was pumping me for information so he could control my life.....can't manipulate people when you don't know what they are doing. He became a person on a 'need to know' basis in my life, but basically too late to pull me out of the morass that he had contrived.

Dr. Phil McGraw chart

6/1/05 - I was right!!!!! In the discussion of Phil McGraw's chart that I did in 2004, I conjectured that perhaps he was born in "Dog" time....and today astrodatabank.com came up with the exact time,....which is 7:15 pm, CST......DOG TIME!! It gives him a Pisces Rising at 20 degrees, but Aries is nearly encompassed in the 1st house as well, so the heat of the fire has burned up the water....water signs are into therapeutic pursuits, but most of his life his energy has been in Aries (I look at the first house as the totality of one's life; if one is born in the odd hour (like 7:00) then the 1st house changes 'animals' 1/3-1/2 way thru, and one can see how the personality changes at that point in life. Knowing the Chinese animal energy and how it overlaps the western astrology wheel is often a very effective way of rectifying a chart. So here's the new chart. It puts Jupiter in the 12th as the last planet the ascendant went over before birth, and the moon in Taurus being the first planet from the ascendant. Both clearly show indices of a person's personality, and with the two weight-oriented planets being in such prominent positions, the guy really can't lose weight.

You'll notice now, with the correct birth time, this throws most of the planets on the right side of the chart....interesting, in that this is the more 'yin' side of the chart. The person is more receptive, and plays a game of chess, observing and moving accordingly, rather than taking the bull by the horns as his Aries rising might wont. Combined with Pisces rising for 10 degrees, he's probably not as 'in your face' in his private life as he is on stage.
