Howard Brush Dean III was born on November 17, 1948 at 7:21 pm, EST in East Hampton, New York. He has a late Scorpio Sun, a Gemini Moon, and Cancer rising.

At this day and time, our candidates are born in the 40's. And those that are born in the second half, have Saturn and Pluto close together in some fashion. These two are the power-domination duo of the universe. There is an ache in the pit of their stomachs to go for power....in this case, the highest power in the world.

Dean has most of his planets on the bottom of his chart, which is opposite of Kerry's. He has a very full private life, and enjoys delving into who he is and how he fits into the universe.

The Universe is made up of 4 elements in the western astrological system (5 in Chinese Medicine): Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Dean has 2 planets in Fire, 2 in Earth, but 4 in Air, and 4 in Water. Air and water do not mix. You can't be objective and subjective at the same time. You can switch in an instant, but can't do the two at once. Which is why a person can be calm, cool and objective, and yet when his emotional button is pushed, he shifts into the subjective, and gets very emotional; logic be damned. The fact he's a Scorpio with Cancer rising enhances the emotional. Then, if you'll look, he has his moon in Gemini in the 11th. Gemini gives the ability to think on your feet, but it's an air sign in a water planet. Here we go again.

Currently, Saturn, the planet of REALITY, is hiding in the 12th house. By May it will enter Dean's first house. With the first house being Self, and the second house Money, this will be a tough 5 year period, where he has to keep his nose clean and not take any shortcuts or the chickens will come home to roost.....to mix a couple of metaphors. In June and July, we'll probably see the mettle of the man.

John Kerry has Neptune in the 10th house, and Dean has its sign, Pisces, in the 10th. Another worrisome thing. Uranus, the planet of spontaneity and sudden change, is hiding out in his 9th house. I say 'hiding' because if you 'turn the chart' (another area of teaching altogether)to the career, 10th house, the 9th is the 12th house for it...one behind it. One must be molded into a strong individual in the hidden recesses of the chart, before he goes into the career. Uranus won't get to 19 degrees of Pisces til March of 2008. Then things will happen suddenly and quickly to change the direction in life he is taking.

At this point, Pluto is moving into to be at the same place as Dean's Mars at 23 degrees of Sag. That's a very incendiary combination. It'll be direct next year, but it's getting close this year. Mars is the god of War, remember, and the first ruler of Scorpio which is now, of course, ruled by Pluto. It's in the 6th house of work, so he needs to be careful not to set himself up for failure.

At the end of October, Neptune stresses Mercury. Neptune being the planet that sees the 'big picture', and also dissolves, and Mercury, the planet of communication don't work well together. Here again, by transit, we have a water planet and an air planet. Neptune can make communication very confusing and not clear. It's not a good time to sign a contract.

Chinese Astrology

Howard was born in the Year and minute of the Rat, the month of the Sheep, and the hour of the Dog.

The Rat can do the right thing for the right reasons, but he's also assailed with fears....fear of abandonment and betrayal. The correlating meridian/organ is the gall bladder. This is the seat of rage. Where the Ox/Liver gets angry, the Rat/Gallbladder, acts out the rage. Being born in the year and minute of the Rat, it's an all encompassing thing as well as his achilles' heel. I imagine his defeat in the Iowa caucus, after he was leading nationally in the polls, was viewed as a betrayal to him, and he lashed out. Me thinks it wasn't from his heart, but from his gall bladder.

Born in the month of the Sheep, he can be dragged into the 'herd' and be taken along. He needs to be a maverick sheep who thinks for himself;' which he seems to be. He can be the lead sheep if he wants to be, with others following him. The Sheep, tho, can be a victim, or victimize others.

Born in the hour of the Dog, this is quite interesting. Bill Clinton and George Bush were born in the Year of the Dog. Dogs are loving, or dogs get territorial and scare people away. They tend to either not be too interested in sex, or interested in uncommitted sex, because commitment is scary to the Dog. Al Gore was born in 1948, and is a Rat, like Dean....appropo of nothing, just a post script.
