Mitt Romney, thought to be the front runner in the Republican quest for the 2008 presidency, has been slipping in the polls to Mike Huckabee. He sought to solidify his position recently by giving a statement on his religious beliefs....much like JFK had to do nearly 50 years ago. It helped as much as it hindered, when you listen to the media pundits.
Willard Mitt Romney was born on March 12, 1947 in Detroit Michigan, at 9:51 am est. The chart is said to be A - 'from memory' - well, we know how that isn't always accurate. Plus, he might suspect this is being used for astrological purposes, and if he has some counsel they could tell him that in WWII Churchill hired an astrologer to tell him what Hitler's astrologer was telling him! Political aspirants and winners don't like their actual time published...but we shall sally forth hoping it's true.
Interestingly, with this chart, He is a mixture of water and air, with little fire and no earth. I guess that's why, as a Virgo/Taurus/earth person, I feel he is a light weight. He's strong in water and air with Gemini/Uranus rising. It's often been said that a Gemini will start a sentence, not knowing where it's going and make it up along the way.....their mind being so facile and quick. That can be good and not good, depending on one's perspective. It does say, with all that water and air, that Romney is an either/or kind of guy. When he's coming from the left brain, air signs, he's logical, linear, and objective. Hit an emotional button, tho, and I suspect he'll be 'gone' for a period of time, wallowing in emotional subjectivity. Carl Jung said we can't think and feel in the same moment. So Air/water people have to be in one or the other.....take it from me who was married to a Cancer/Gemini.....it ain't easy!! You expect them to be logical and linear, and then when they go into this emotional, subjective place, it's unsettling. It'll be interesting to see if Romney has disciplined himself to stay in the left brain/objective, or whether someone can get to him by pushing the right button.
It could be that all of the candidates born in the middle 40's will be out of the running by the time the election arrives, since the power they feel now, with Pluto sesquiquadrating itself, is about to give way to Neptune sesqu'ing itself. The two, in a Master YOD position since 1941, make up a powerful aspect, and more so when each planet is sesqui'ing itself at nearly the same time. The baby boomers of the 40s feel they are in power with Pluto, and then Neptune comes along and pulls the rug out from under them...what appeared to be is not a sure thing. GWBush is starting to feel it as Neptune 'released' the NIE report that Iran has no nuclear capability. Hillary won't feel it til 2009, so if she becomes president something's bound to bottom out afterwards..
Mitt has been riding the crest of the wave of Pluto sesqu'ing natal Pluto, feeling fully in power, and now, at the end of 2007, it's starting to show the leak. That leak is Neptune moving in to sesquiquadrate itself by retro'ing on May 26th of 2008, and then sesqu'ing itself three times in 2009 while Chiron sesquis it as well, since the two are nearly conjunct, and will remain in tandem til...2014. Chiron adds wounding to scandal or revelation over what had been hidden.
But, back to Mitt's chart. Uranus is in the first house in this chart, in Gemini, which would be far more in line with his run for governor of Massachusetts where he was pro choice, and open to gay marriage. Uranus energy is forward thinking, usually liberal, with notable exceptions, and tolerant of other people's lifestyles.
The infamous Saturn/Pluto conjunction of 1947 occurs on either side of the IC; his foundation. This is where the strict religious upbringing has it's roots. S/P usually represents the father, but he is said to have idolized his father. S/P is essentially in the 4th, and moon is in Scorpio. The moon represents mom and his emotions, so someone was a strong, authoritarian, no-nonsense person and it could have been mom. It also says that his childhood was strict and unyielding. With Uranus in the first, one might wonder if he was the quasi rebel in the bunch and questioned this authority. Uranus rules Aquarius, and gives him the urge to be different and buck authority.
Mitt was born just a few months before S/P conjuncted in the sky (in August) and Chiron was squaring it. This is usually father wounding, so it's interesting that his bio says he idolized his father. Chiron in the 6th, is squaring S/P at the start of the 4th...so maybe it goes back to mom again. The 4th, the foundation of the chart, represents mom, but it also represents Dad's grandmother or mom's grandfather.....one of these might be in the mix, too.
On the Astrodatabank site, under Mitt's chart, astrologers have commented on his chart, and one noted that no one with Mars in Pisces has ever become president. The only other Pisceans who have become president, are George Washington, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, in the fledgling years of the country, and Grover Cleveland. It would seem a Pisces, who tends to the spiritual and eschews the limelight, would have to have Aries planets, or Pluto aspecting major planets in someway....and someone with Mars in Pisces, is like Mars and Neptune together...Nep/Pisces energies blunts the dynamic force to move forward.
Pisces isn't a natural placement for someone in the limelight, someone who wants power....that comes from Saturn and Pluto together. The Late 40's, with Saturn and Pluto conjuncting in Leo, produced a lot of power seeking people. Wouldn't it be something if at the time they sought power, the Neptune sesquiquadrate wipes it out?...as I type that, one has to take into consideration that Neptune is Pisces' planet.....will that help or hinder more?
Mitt Romney is a highly spiritually, evolved individual with Venus and Pallas in Aquarius, and Mars, Mercury and the Sun in Pisces, with Uranus rising in the first. One wonders why he would want to be president, and if S/P weren't together at his foundation, he probably wouldn't.
Chinese astrology:
We normally think of Pisces as gauzy, in soft light, ethereal, not clearly defined; a soft, gentle, spiritual person who would prefer to be off gathering natural ingredients for a vegetarian feed. Yet, Pisces of the 40's and 50's are different. You find Pisceans in this age range, who are very strong, very vocal, very 'out there', and sometimes, 'in your face'. That's because for those Pisceans, Pluto is in the Monkey/Bladder meridian in the Chinese overlay. Pluto is domination, control, and manipulation, and the Monkey, who goes into denial and over rides what's obvious if it doesn't suit him, amps it up. Pluto in the Monkey/Bladder arena, can over ride a natural inclination in order to stay in power or gain the upper hand. It's as if they feel that sense of 'losing' and double up their strength to over compensate. Mitt was born with this, in the 4th house. It's his foundation, his roots, can represent mom, and is the house that is strongest in his chart.
Mitt's primary meridian is the Cat/Lg Intestine. He's very mental/metal/air, in this regard. 8 of his house cusps (Chinese cusps) come back to Cat. No matter what is going on, his achillees' heel, the bottom line, is someone(s) kept tearing down his self esteem, so that he probably sought to over come it be over achieving, with a driving ambition to 'show them'. What would happen if he did become president? It probably still wouldn't be enough.
Currently:
The power point of the Nep/Pluto YOD, is pointing at the end of Cancer. It's been bouncing off his Uranus since about 1992-3, where he broke the mold and gained prominence. Now, it's moving into the Saturn energy. That might be the change in attitude, making him more conservative now, than he was then. It also says that the free wheeling he had with Uranus, is going to wane, and it'll be harder to gain what he wants. It's in the Sheep/Sm. Intestine area of the Chinese overlay, so needs to be careful with whom he associates. Uranus is leaving the 10th house of career, moving in on his sun - which could bring some sudden changes in April and August of 2008, but Neptune moves thru the 10th of career - not indicative of high public office. By next year, Saturn starts moving thru the 4th house, at the bottom of the chart, providing a solid base for the high falutin' Neptune in the 10th, but reminds him of the sternness of his childhood.
