California's governor race is heating up as I write this on 4/29/06. Phil Angelides has been a force in California government for some time and has the backing of Senators Boxer and Feinstein, among others. Steve Westly has been advertising longer than Angelides, and so far, I seem to like him best, altho I need to read more about the two. But, since the one who wins will be head of the 5th largest economy in the world, let's see them from an astrological point of view.
Year: Rooster
Steve Westly was born on August 27, 1957 in Arcadia, California. He's a Virgo with a Libra moon. Virgo tend to be the person behind the throne, ie., the agent, or the pr person, or the cpa; normally they leave the limelight to the Leos and other signs that like to be in front of the crowd.....so if we knew his rising sign, we could see where this comes from. Looking at his chart, though, he has his Virgo sun right between Pluto and Mars. This combination gives him a stronger desire for power than other Virgos, and the Mars component would lead him to accomplish it...and he may have a pretty strong temper. He is a multi millionnaire, and this shows with Venus and Jupiter in his second house of money in his solar chart. Life isn't easy for those born in 1956-57, for they have Saturn square Pluto at birth, indicating a strong authority figure, usually father, who brooked no nonsense. Then, when Pluto moves 90 degrees away from itself and creates the Pluto square (for Westly it occurred about 1997) it conjuncts Saturn while it squares itself. The Pluto square is very defining by itself, but with Saturn involved, it amps up the energy; he emerged from this time frame, a far stronger human being than the one who entered it.
Currently, Pluto is squaring his Mercury which might bring on a war of words with the media, but Uranus has recently opposed Mars (3/29) lending some new light and direction to his forward drive. On June 9th, around primary time, Saturn trines Saturn, which could bode well for him.
Steve was born in the Year of the Rooster and the Month of the Snake. The Rooster needs to conquer his fears to move forward. Roosters are usually news junkies who read the paper, watch the tv news and want to keep on top of things so nothing slips in to make them fearful. As Roosters bop their heads up and down, so too, do Roosters have neck problems from trying to keep track of everything (the upper trapezius muscles in the sides of the neck are related to the Rooster and the emotion of fear). Roosters who have handled their fears and have moved into a state of peace are formidable persons, indeed, for they can't be assailed. Born in the month of the Snake, Steve is a perfectionist who wants to do a job well or maybe not do it all, i.e., if he didn't feel competent and qualified to be governor, he probably wouldn't try for it.

Phil Angelides was born on June 11, 1953 in Sacramento, California. He was born with the sun and moon in Gemini. That tells us, with the sun and moon relating to parents, that they were most probably in a happy marriage at the time of his birth. Angelides has a stellium in Gemini (more than 3 planets in one sign), which makes him focused and intelligent. Fortunately, he has Venus in Taurus to give him some grounding with the ability to bring his multiplicity of ideas into form. He, too, has the Sun and Mars together, giving him the will power and drive to move forward. Angelides has the curse of the early 50's with Saturn and Neptune conjunct in Libra. They trine his Gemini planets which is a great advantage, but Saturn is Reality with a capital R and Neptune is Unreality with a capital U, and together it's a push pull, where sometimes he can probably be very open and giving and generous, and then he'll pull himself up short and be very tight. Saturn gets very irritated at Neptune's ways.
Uranus trines his Mercury this year, which is great for sudden ideas popping into his head out of the blue. Saturn, moving through Leo, will start conjuncting the Pluto positions of those born in the 50's around September, and will conjunct his natal Pluto on 9/28. That could either put the powerful in his corner, or cause some stressful times.
